Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's next film will be Los abrazos rotos, which he describes as a "four-way tale of amour fou, shot in the style of 50s American film noir at its most hard-boiled." Penelope Cruz, Blanca Portillo and Lluis Homar will star.
According to Variety, filming will begin in Spain next Spring. The director is still finishing the script.
The film is set in the 90s and present day. It will mix stylistic references to films such as Nicholas Ray's In a Lonely Place and Vincente Minnelli's The Bad and the Beautiful with signature Almodovar themes: "Fate, the mystery of creation, guilt, unscrupulous power, the eternal search of fathers for sons, and sons for fathers," Almodovar told Variety.
He elaborated, "Penelope will exchange the era's aprons, cardigans and the hairdos for an updated look, but one that mixes the transparent turbulence of Gene Tierney and the mistreated, challenging beauty of Linda Darnell in Otto Preminger's Fallen Angel.
It's practically like he's parodying himself, but doing a classy thoughtful job of it. David Morgan Filmwad-

In this 6th edition of the Turntable Music Night series, STEIM is very proud to present turntable giant Otomo Yoshihide along with local talents Fedde ten Berge and Luc van Weelden. Over the years, Otomo has exposed and exploited what a turntable can be as an musical instrument, whether it is percussive, textural or as means of feedback. His recent work has taken these techniques into the form of massive sound installations. Ten Berge and Van Weelden are a new generation of musicians that aren't afraid to take technology into their own hands. They have been working on a live-setup utilizing robotic turntables, neural network based algorithms and live video processing. Come join us to experience some rotating madness.

Her Vanished Grace new recording BLUE (2009) is dark urgent pop singed with white noise. HVG has crafted a sweetly menlacholic tableau of vivid memories with lush vocals and simmering tension. With Nance and Charlie’s guitar textures veering from candy colored swirl to vintage ‘60s bite and Billy and Maria's hard hitting and melodic rhythm section propelling the music, this is the blend of old and new that the band has been striving for.
The moonlit jangle of Echo & the Bunnymen and The Raveonettes and the vast oceanic landscapes of Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine are evident as influences but are recombined to create a unique and powerful sound. The bracing music of HVG is an explosive modern mix of '80s new wave and '90s shoegaze with killer hooks and vivid colors.

Logan: When we lived in Chapel Hill, there was about a 6-month stint where Thad Cockrell (a good friend of ours, and an amazing songwriter) was sleeping on the couch at my house. One night we had all gone over to Skip and Timshel's for dinner. While we were cooking, we were playing various records and at some point, someone puts Neil Young's Comes a Time on. As soon as the first song started, Thad came around the corner, genuinely teary-eyed, and said "I can't listen to this record right now, I fell in love to that record and I'm not ready to hear it right now". We all felt a little bad, and a couple weeks later, while Skip was brushing his teeth he came up with this song.

In the digital age of music, Turntablism has long remained a bastion of the analogue, a smoky backroom where arguments over white labels, pick-ups and the merits of the ‘S’-shaped tone arm are the order of the day. Only recently has the turntable been dragged into the digital spectrum, beginning with the CD models ten years ago and being followed now by the emergence of hard-drive based decks.

The recent Picasso & His Collection exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) of Brisbane, Australia, managed to take the digital deck another step further. A significant part of Pablo Picasso’s genius was the posthumous influence he had on modern Europe following his death in 1973, something GoMA’s curators were excited to capture in their Contemporary Media Lounge, the centrepiece being the introduction of a touch screen turntable.

Co-ordinated by GoMA’s Multimedia Designer, Aidan Robertson and calling on the skills of both the gallery’s exhibitions team and post production company Cutting Edge’s Interactive Designer, Dan Treichel, the brilliance of the turntables lies in the linking of a platter taken from a Numark HDX deck with an intuitive touchscreen. As the platter spins, the user is able to manipulate a range of adjustable filters onscreen to build, rearrange and reinvent the MP3 songs on the drive. While relatively easy to pick up and play, the turntables also possess a steady learning curve, letting the more committed and ambitious users create works of intimidating aural dexterity.

Thus Robertson, Treichel and their collaborators managed to weave together the practicality of both old and new, keeping the tactile response of the high-torque HDX platter but matching it to the easy access of media and filters provided by a touchscreen. By doing so, they created a compelling experience and in the process made the touchscreen-turntables an unexpected star of the exhibition. Matt Shea - The Cool Hunter

My graduation film Khoda. Director and art director: Reza Dolatabadi
Description:
What if you watch a film and whenever you pause it, you face a painting? This idea inspired Reza Dolatabadi to make Khoda. Over 6000 paintings were painstakingly produced during two years to create a five minutes film that would meet high personal standards. Khoda is a psychological thriller; a student project which was seen as a ‘mission impossible’ by many people but eventually proved possible!
